SOE Shuts Down SWG Dead Servers

The grouping tools failed to find the people who were not playing. The 'Community Building' campaign to recruit an inexistant new or reduced old playerbase to sign up to ghost servers did not work. The marketing effort by the vocal and shameless minority received as much resistance as the NGE 4 years earlier.

In the end, the NGE virus which plagued the SWG game and community on that dreadful November 15th 2005 is finally showing its most tangible sign: the shutdown of half of the Star Wars Galaxies: NGE servers.

Four years go, the SWG community became poisoned; and most left in mass shortly after the NGE was wickedly loaded upon all servers. Those who joined since have inherited the strain; and now the virus has began eating up the servers as well.

SOE insists that this is for the good of the game and that, as usual, the future is bright in this galaxy far, far away. Yet, here's thinking this virus won't subside. It has become stronger and more resilient than ever and continues to feed and grow through the Trading Card Game Loot, the Zombies, the broken pomises, the poisoned target market, avatars which run like hamsters and fight on steroids...

Four years ago SOE and LA said that this is what "we" wanted, albeit we didn't know it. Today, servers which have been the beloved home of many and source of dear memories to more, will be unplugged for good and stored away in a room big enough to accomodate the remanining others in a not so distant future.
